The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) commends Operation Calm Life

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lt Gen PA Blay, has announced that the joint Military and Police  Patrols, (Operation Calm Life), would begin to be more proactive and broaden its scope to ensure that Ghanaian citizens are free to go about their normal activities without fear.

He added that the professionalism exhibited by troops on night patrols has reduced the incident of armed robbery drastically.

Lt Gen Blay made these remarks at a short commendation parade for troops on Operation Calm Life operations at Burma Camp on Friday, 26 February, 2010.

Recounting the challenges of the operation, the Officer Commanding Operation Calm Life, Captain Awudu Mohammed, said personnel who take part in the night patrols are very grateful to high command for the assistance they continue to receive and assured him that his troops morale will always remain very high.

The CDS encouraged the public to provide the patrol teams with information that will lead to the arrest of criminals since these criminals live amongst the populace. He said the work of the patrol teams are sometimes made difficult as a result of lack of information. He however added that mechanisms were being put in place by the military and police intelligence units to gather intelligence to combat crime.

The CDS reiterated the promise made by the President at the State of the Nation’s Address to improve especially the security services accommodation problems and to re-equip some specialized units of the Ghana Armed Forces like the Engineers for national reconstruction.

Also present at the ceremony were the Service Chiefs and very senior military officers and personnel from some Accra Units.
